Trip to Niagara

Today was one of our irregularly scheduled tasting/buying trips to the peninsula:

Marynissen Cabernet Sauvignon Lot 66 2001 C$29

Hugely extracted with masses of tannins backed by gobs of red and black fruit. There is so much fruit one could almost drink it now with food. Don't! This is one for the cellar.

Marynissen Cabernet/Merlot 2001 C$14.95

Another keeper very much in the classic Marynissen style. Probably need 10 years. A steal at the price.

Marynissen Gewurztraminer 2002 C$12.95

A real return to form. Rose petals, lychees, spice. Just barely off dry. very nice indeed.

Lailey Vineyards Late Harvested Riesling 2002 C$25

Don't let the name fool you. This is bone dry with a steely lemon acid core underlaying strong fruit. Should age extremely well.

Featherstone Gamay 2001 C$12

This is a new and very promising winery. Their wines are very fruit driven (too much so to my taste in their more 'serious' wines). The Gamay is an easy drinking red with gobs of cherry fruit made more complex by a distinct anise note.
